About Rhiannon
A personal journey through Brass

A Passion for Brass from the Beginning
Rhiannon Catley is a professional trumpeter / Cornetist known for her energy, versatility, and love of live performance. She began her musical journey at age 10, inspired by her father, a former session guitarist who was playing tuba at the time. One rehearsal visit sparked her fascination with brass instruments, and from that moment, she knew she had found her path.
Early Success in Brass Banding
Rhiannon quickly made a name for herself in the brass band scene. She performed with the Maltby Miners Welfare Band, Thoresby Colliery Band, and Hatfield & Askern Colliery Band.
By age 15, she had earned the role of Principal Cornet with the Wakefield Metropolitan Band. That early appointment highlighted her remarkable talent and dedication.
National Champion with Youth Brass 2000
Alongside her local success, Rhiannon joined Youth Brass 2000 under the direction of Chris Jeans. The group became National Champions in both 2023 and 2025. Rhiannon contributed as Co-Principal Cornet, helping to lead the band to victory.
Evolving Her Sound Beyond Tradition
Though her foundation is in traditional brass banding, Rhiannon has now evolved her sound. She performs in pop, soul, and funk genres, blending classical technique with a modern feel.
